Why waxing is the wrong answer for stone

A common mistake with marble and stone floors is treating imperfections the same way you would treat a scuffed vinyl floor, with another layer of wax. Stone floor imperfections can only really be resolved through a proper restoration process, one that eliminates the need for continual waxing rather than adding to the cycle. Wax on a damaged stone floor covers the problem for a short time and comes back looking dull again within weeks.

Restoration instead of waxing means working with the stone surface directly, correcting etching, restoring shine, and addressing staining at its source, so the results last considerably longer than a wax coating ever could. This is a different mindset than most cleaning contractors bring to stone floors, and it is part of why CLS focuses specifically on restoration rather than treating stone the same as any other hard surface in the building.

Getting this wrong is not cheap to undo. A stone floor treated with the wrong chemicals or an aggressive process can be permanently etched or damaged in a way that requires far more extensive, more expensive correction than routine maintenance would have needed. This matters because marble, granite and other natural stones do not all behave the same way under the same products. What works for one type of stone can etch or discolor another. Technicians trained specifically in stone care know the difference and adjust their approach to the actual material in front of them, rather than treating every stone floor identically regardless of its composition.
