We restore old terrazzo in downtown Aurora

Downtown Aurora sits on both banks of the Fox River, around Stolp Island. Many of its commercial buildings are old brick blocks that went up long before the office parks by the tollway. When one of them still has its original terrazzo or marble in the lobby, that floor is worth saving. It's hard to match once it's torn out. Restoring it keeps the look the building was built with.

Old stone and terrazzo floors lose their shine for plain reasons. Grit from the sidewalk scratches the surface, and the wrong cleaner damages it. Acidic products etch marble, and layers of old wax on terrazzo turn yellow and hold dirt. Aurora winters add salt and sand to that, tracked in from the street for months. By March a lobby floor can look ruined. Often it's just dirty and scratched.

We clean winter salt off Aurora floors

From the first snow until the spring thaw, Aurora's parking lots and sidewalks get salted again and again. Everyone who walks in carries some of that salt onto your floor. On carpet it dries into a white crust just inside the doors. On vinyl tile it leaves a film that dulls the finish and gets slick when it's wet. Salt left in carpet does real damage over a season. It dries into the fibers and gets ground in by boots, so the carpet at the doors wears out first. Carpets on our program have lasted more than two decades.

Floor scrubbing and waxing is part of our standard janitorial contract, once or twice a year, and other companies charge extra for it. That matters here, because a winter of salt is often what wears through the finish on a tile floor. Restroom pressure washing and restorative carpet extraction are in the same contract, along with interior windows as needed. So the spring cleanup after a hard winter doesn't show up as a separate bill.
